My experience has been pretty much the same—one minute the official app is perfect, and the next it’s like it forgets my Roku even exists. I went down the rabbit hole of trying third-party apps and found a couple that are surprisingly solid. One I keep coming back to is “TV Remote – Universal Control” on iOS. It’s not flawless, but at least it connects and stays connected, which is more than I can say for the Roku app lately.

I also stumbled across this guide that helped me figure out why the original app wasn’t working: Roku Remote App Not Working. Turns out, my phone had jumped onto a guest Wi-Fi network without me noticing, and that was messing with the connectivity. After reading that, I started checking network settings more carefully. Honestly, it’s worth a read if you haven’t gone through it yet. It explains a few workarounds, including how to manually connect the app via IP address if needed. Still, having a backup app has been a lifesaver when the main one flakes out.

In my opinion, the most important thing when switching from a standard PC to a Macbook is that many programs on a Macbook will be different, because it is a completely different system, not Windows. Therefore, I would recommend reading, for example, here https://setapp.com/app-reviews/winscp-alternative-for-mac about what alternatives there are to a particular program. For example, when it comes to the Winscp program, I searched for a long time for a replacement, and this information was very useful to me.

In a late-night chat about smart home setups, someone joked that their universal remote could practically launch a space shuttle—if only it could settle family arguments over which news channel to watch. That spun off into a whole thread about media bias and how different networks shape narratives depending on the story. Out of curiosity, I pulled up a mix of msnbc reviews just to see how everyday viewers felt about coverage consistency and tone. Feedback ranged from praise for in-depth reporting to critiques about selective angles, which honestly matched the back-and-forth happening in that living room.
